Use SSRS with SOP and POP

One of the more common complaints of any GP user is the limitations of the report writer.  Especially when it comes to Sales and Purchasing documents, which can be very customized within each organization and even to a specific customer or vendor.

Even with the addition of Word Templates you are still saddled with GP’s report writer for creating the groupings and dataset.  In a way it’s almost double the work.  Never mind trying to bring in custom SQL data or doing any complex groupings.

What if you could create your dataset using SQL?  Better yet, what about basing it on stored procedure?

What if you could use a modern report writer like Microsoft Report Builder for SSRS?

We decided to do just that and built some alternate windows in SOP and POP that replace GP’s SOP and POP printing with SSRS reports.  The customization allows an unlimited number of formats within each of the document categories:  quote, order, invoice, return, and purchase order.
