Exchange Rate Table ID Design for Multicurrency Consolidation
Moving the Translations rate tables into Dynamics GP with the release of Management Reporter 2012 makes for a more extensive list of Exchange Rate tables having both Transaction and Translation rate tables managed in one area. When setting up your new Translation rate tables consider using a common prefix for Translation Exchange Rate Table IDs to organize exchange tables between Translation and Transaction.
Excerpt from the Consolidation Accounting Series White Paper, Currency Translation in
Microsoft Dynamics GP® and Management Reporter
The following example is a naming convention used for Translation Exchange Rate tables in Dynamics GP for the purposes of this White Paper, and is one of many design concepts to keep your rate tables organized and separated. You could use a Z to move to the bottom, or use a prefix to represent all translation tables. In this example, MR is used as a prefix.
Translation Exchange Table ID logic:
Translation Tables–Functional Currency–Reporting Currency–Translation Type, Average, Month End, or Historical
For consolidating the Japan company into a US$ consolidated report, the following Exchange Table IDs are used:
Translation Tables – MR (prefix for all translation Exchange Table IDs)
Functional Currency–YEN
Reporting Currency – US
Translation Type, Average – ME, Month End – AVG, and Historical – HIST
The following Exchange Rate Table IDs are created in the Two Inc. Japan Company
MR–YEN–US–ME (Translation Table for YEN to US$ at Month End (Current) rates)
MR–YEN–US–AVG (Translation Table for YEN to US$ at Average rates)
MR–YEN–US–HIST (Translation Table for YEN to US$ at Historical rates)
